Position Description: Perform statistical analyses of air traffic operational data; develop metrics to measure air traffic performance measures such as airport capacity, air traffic delay and throughput; develop stochastic mathematical and statistical models that take into account factors such as convective weather, human performance uncertainty, and aircraft behavior in the system. You will develop methodologies to forecast future air traffic demand and complexity and determine the impact on the system National Airspace System performance metrics. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, human factors specialists, and computer science engineers. You will have access to numerous resources including a world-class state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control laboratory, aviation expertise and an unrivalled aviation knowledge-base system to conduct your research.
You will need a Bachelor or Master degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or related field.
You will need working knowledge of statistical packages such as SPSS or SAS. You will need working knowledge of computing languages (e.g., C, C++, JAVA). Working knowledge of numerical computing languages such as MATLAB is a plus. Working knowledge of data mining and text mining tools is desirable.

The Division of Cancer Prevention of the National Cancer Institute offers unpaid clinical trials research training internships for outstanding statistics and biostatistics students who have a strong interest in both clinical trials and methodological research. Each intern will select a research project from any of the areas of active research interest of the preceptor and work with the preceptor toward turning the project into a paper that can be published (with the intern as a coauthor). In the past, interns have worked on projects dealing with ordered categorical data, methodologies for prostate cancer screening trials, improved methods of randomization, and methods to control selection bias in randomized trials. Other research interests include endpoint selection (including the validation of surrogate endpoints) and nonparametric covariate adjustment. In some cases, interns may be able to suggest a suitable research project on which to work. The hours are flexible to allow the intern to also work at a paying job, and interns enjoy the benefits of access to the world-class NIH library. Interns also are free to attend lectures presented by cutting-edge researchers on and around the NIH campus. The strongest consideration will go to those candidates who familiarize themselves with at least some of the aforementioned work and mention this in their cover letter. The program will consist of up to 480
hours of work at the Pfizer Global
Research and Development facilities in
Kalamazoo, St. Louis, La Jolla, or Groton/New London, commencing as early as
April and ending as late as December. The
intern’s project will be biopharmceutically
oriented, with one-on-one supervision
by a senior staff statistician. The project
will be a hands-on learning experience
involving both statistical and related data
review and data transformation programming
tasks. The programming tasks will
involve the use of SAS on the UNIX or
NT platforms. As part of the internship
program, the intern will prepare a written
report and brief presentation summarizing
their work and forming a permanent

The Biostatistics group within the Clinical Development Services division at Quintiles is seeking enthusiastic Associate Biostatisticians to join our group as Interns. The Associate Biostatistician- Intern will work with lead project team Biostatisticians in the accurate development and implementation of programming specifications, database evaluation, and analysis plan drafting. Provide statistical review of program output, tables, figures, and listings resulting from the specifications. Provide statistical consulting for analysis file QC and generation of data listings. Perform statistical evaluation of databases including creation of consistency queries, summaries of database characteristics, and routine statistical summaries. May run non-production SAS programs to explore database characteristics in preparation for statistical analysis (upon direction of lead Biostatistician). techniques to real business problems.
Students will work with the research and
statistical modeling staff engaged in data
mining, predictive modeling, and other
actuarial research applying advanced statistical
tools. Interns will use SAS and other
software tools to retrieve and summarize
data in preparation for analysis. They will
perform statistical analyses using statistical
software and be expected to interpret the
results and identify significant outcomes,
as well as produce reports to explain findings.
Effective communication skills and
the ability to work as part of a modeling

problems considered may include analyzing
